CJI Surya Kant today launched the SCBA Digital Portal.

The Chief Justice of India on Wednesday, 29th April 2026 attended the event organised by Supreme Court Bar Association for the launch of its Digital Portal.

CJI Surya Kant congratulated the SCBA on its venture saying that a good website also means transparency. All the information is now in public domain and that really brings a kind of autonomy, transparency and working quality culture in the institution, the CJI said.

CJI Kant observed that he does not take decisions in his court without consulting with the Bar. This remark fell from the CJI after he noted that the attendance at the event was low. Hinting that the reason for such low attendance might be the court's recent decision to provisionally allow newly registered Advocates-on-Record (AORs) to vote in the upcoming elections for the office bearers of the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA), CJI Kant clarified that he does not pass directions without the Bar's consent.

"Yeh jo chairs khali thi iska mujhe darr yeh ho gaya ke kal ke mere orders ki wajah se toh nhi ho gaya yeh saara kuch. To maine socha aaj bar ke log kam hai toh iska matlab mere liye ek review petition aa gyi hai. Normally what we do in court is ofcourse taking the Bar into confidence. Nothing is done in Court No. 1 unless bar really wants it...And I give due respect to the sentiments of the Bar members. In fact this is one occassion where I can convey my thanks to the Bar informally for their cooperation. The reforms in the last two years have happened slowly only because of the Bar", the CJI said.

CJI further said that the Supreme Court bar has actually established itself as a leader by example.

Justice Vikram Nath was also present at the event. Even Justice Nath during his address remarked over the low attendance at the event. "Ab iska khamiyaza bhugatna padega," he said jokingly.
