A petition has been filed in Allahabad High Court seeking CBI inquiry into the 'mysterious death' of Mahant Narendra Giri, President of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP), who was found hanging in his room inside Ashram at Baghambari math in Prayagraj on Monday.
The petitioner, Advocated Sunil Kumar @Sunil Chaudhary (in person) has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) through Letter Petition stating that he got to know about the incident through the news portal of 'Dainik Jagran' on September 20 and when his resources inquired the residents of Math about it, they told that the incident has taken place due to huge financial misappropriation.
The petitioner has contended against the possibility of the suicide stating that Mahant Giri was provided with security by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. He has raised the question that how is it possible for such an incident to take place in presence of a large number of disciples and security staff.
He has stressed that the news portal of Dainik Jagran also denoted that in this matter a high-ranking police officer and land mafia are involved.
Therefore, he has averred, "if a higher police official is involved in the matter as per news so how it is possible to proceed with a fair investigation by the Prayagraj Police if they are being categorized in the list of suspects."
The petitioner has said that Mahant Narendra Giri was idle of Hindus having millions of followers and his such 'mysterious death' has shocked the entire country.
Suspecting a greater danger to the law and order or Prayagraj due to this mishappening, the petitioner has requested the court to accept the PIL through the letter petition or take suo moto cognizance of the matter against the respondent State authorities and other persons responsible.
He has prayed the court to issue a writ order or direction in the nature of mandamus commanding State of UP through Principal Secretary Home to recommend and conduct a CBI inquiry into the present matter and to suspend District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police of Prayagraj.
