"The Prime Minister of India should never have shown his interest to go to such a private affair, those the PM would have consulted must have told him that this may send a wrong signal...", the senior counsel has said
Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal today addressed the media over the Prime Minister's visit to Chief Justice of India Dr DY Chandrachud's residence on the occasion of Ganpati Pooja.
Sibal has requested the media not to blow the situation out of proportion and not to start speculating personal motives.
Vocalizing his personal opinion on the issue, Sibal said he was taken aback after seeing the video circulating on social media.
"I have great respect for the present Chief Justice, he is a man of great personal integrity, but I WAS REALLY SURPRISED WHEN I SAW THIS CLIP THAT IS GOING VIRAL..", Sibal said.
Defending the CJI, Sibal further said that "maybe CJI Chandrachud may not have known that it was being publicized..".
On the impact of the clip circulating, the senior advocate has said gossip around the institution is not fair.
Addressing the speculations around the issue, he said, "This ignites a debate which may be harmful to the institution, there is speculation because of which this is not good....Court is deciding issues on executive action day in and day out, and it may have implications, which are not fair to the individuals' concerned..".
Sibal has also questioned the CJI over the message this meeting would send to the judiciary. "Once you do this, what message does it send to the high courts and the judiciary, they also look upon these things, that sends an unfortunate signal. My view is it should have best been avoided", he added.
