During an address to the party workers in Bhopal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Uniform Civil Code(UCC) is mentioned in the Constitution and the Supreme Court has also asked for its implementation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday stressed the need for implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in the country.  He said that the country cannot function with a dual system of laws when the Constitution envisions UCC and the Supreme Court has asked for its implementation.

Responding to a question raised by a BJP booth worker during his Bhopal visit, PM Modi said that UCC is being used to mislead and incite Muslim community.

"Nowadays people are being investigated in the name of UCC. How can the country function with a dual system (of laws)? The Constitution also talks of equal rights. The Supreme Court has said that UCC must be brought," he said.

Further, Modi accused opposition political parties of playing vote bank politics by inciting Muslims of India for their own political gains.

"Muslims of India should understand who are inciting them for their own gains. Today we are seeing some people inciting others (Muslims) in the name of UCC,” PMO added.

On triple talaq, he said that those supporting it are doing a grave injustice to Muslim women. “Triple Talaq not only does injustice to women but entire families are destroyed. Many Muslim majority countries have banned Triple Talaq", the PM stated.

He condemned supporters of the triple talaq questioning why it is not allowed in many islamic countries like Indonesia, Qatar, Bangladesh, etc. if it is an essential religious practice.

Earlier in June, the Law Commission of India had decided to deliberate afresh upon the UCC and had invited views and ideas of the public at large and recognised religious organizations for the purpose.
