PM Security Breach: Supreme Court to hear petition seeking probe tomorrow

The Supreme Court is expected to hear a plea seeking probe into the security lapse of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Punjab yesterday. The plea also seeks suspension of Punjab DGP, Chief Secretary

After the matter was mentioned by Senior Advocate Maninder Singh before a bench of  CJI NV Ramana & Justices Surya Kant, Hima Kohli, the top court has agreed to hear the case.

Singh further informed the court that such instances should not be repeated.

He also urged the court that the details of the security that was being provided to the Prime Minister, be kept in the custody of District Judge, Bhatinda.

Accordingly, CJI NV Ramana asked Singh to serve the papers on the State and said that the matter will be listed tomorrow.

In an unprecedented turn of events, the Prime Minister 's convoy heading to Punjab was stuck on a flyover for around 20 minutes due on Wednesday. He was headed to Ferozepur to address a rally, which later got postponed. 

The Union Home Ministry, in a statement, described the incident as a “major lapse” in the Prime Minister’s travel in Punjab.

The matter will now be heard tomorrow by a bench of CJI Ramana
