Synopsis

Court directed the District Collector and Commissioner of Police to ensure that the road leading towards the high court, is not blocked in the name of any ‘julus’, ‘dharna’, and religious celebrations

In a suo motu case against blocking of the road to the Jhalamand circle and high court on the occasion of “Pran Pratishtha Mahotsava” of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, Justice Dinesh Gupta of the Rajasthan High Court at Jodhpur Bench held that it was interference in the administration of justice.

"It is ironic that while Lord ‘Ram’ had created a bridge to approach Lanka, people have blocked the way resulting in a complete roadblock and impasse,'' the judge noted in his order.

The judge said that the real celebration would be if the society respects and follows the ideals and virtues that Lord ‘Ram’, who is worshiped as 'Maryada Puroshottam Ram', embodied.

Court emphasised that while it fully associated with the sentiments of millions of people on the advent of “Pran Pratishtha Mahotsava”, the blockage of road, particularly the road connecting the high court, amounted to interference in administration of justice.

A notice was issued to the Commissioner of Police and District Collector seeking information on whether the administration installed any barriers or granted permission for road blockades.

In response, District Collector Gaurav Agarwal and Commissioner of Police Ravi Dutt Gaur appeared before the court, stating that those responsible for the blockage at Jhalamand Circle had been instructed to remove it and consequently, the road in question was open for smooth traffic flow.

Taking note of the same, the single judge bench directed the District Collector and Commissioner of Police to ensure that in future the roads, particularly the road leading towards the high court, are not blocked in the name of any ‘julus’, ‘dharna’, and religious celebrations.

"Office is directed to register this petition as a ‘PIL’ and place before Hon’ble the Chief Justice for listing before appropriate Bench for further direction as deemed appropriate or to dispose of the petition...," the bench ordered.
