The bench was hearing a plea filed by Amrapali Group challenging the Delhi High Court order directing initiation of arbitration by a committee headed by retired Justice Veena Birbal for resolving the matter.
The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice against former Indian Cricket Team Captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni over a dispute of around Rs 150 Crores between him and Amrapali Group. The dues pertain to the pending payment to Dhoni in lieu of promoting the brand.
A bench of Justice UU Lalit, Justice S Ravindra Bhat, and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia issued notice while seeking response from Dhoni on the matter.
The bench was hearing a plea filed by Amrapali Group challenging the Delhi High Court order directing initiation of arbitration by a committee headed by retired Justice Veena Birbal for resolving the issues.
However, the top court today, stayed the arbitral proceedings while issuing notice.
The Amrapali Group had informed the bench the payment is due as the group is short of funds and that is the reason why the group is unable to deliver the flats.
