In a plea filed by Social Action Forum seeking all States to follow NALSA's compensation scheme for survivors of sexual assault, the Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the States of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.

A CJI Chandrachud led bench was informed that the minimum value of compensation to be given as per NALSA's scheme was 5 lakhs but the said states were only granting 3 lakhs.

The bench also comprising Justices Pardiwala and Narasimha was further told that at present the petitioner forum had impleaded four states – Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, and Bihar and other states could also be added.

"We will presently issue notice to these states only. Later it can be expanded", said CJI in reply.
