Rudy has requested the government to look into the misuse of 498A against the husband, his parents and the family members, who according to him, are sometimes unnecessarily dragged into the litigation.
While discussing about the Family Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2022 in the Lok Sabha recently, Member of Parliament Rajiv Pratap Rudy, belonging to the Bharatiya Janta Party spoke about the rights of men who are being wrongly prosecuted under Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code.
On July 26, Rudy said, "In cases where women are harassed, the law should take its course, but we have also witnessed in India lately that men's rights in this context has not been discussed...".
Throughout his address, though repeatedly speaking as to how women are in fact being harassed, Rudy said that often misuse of the Dowry Act comes to the light.
"In India, if 90% of the times women's rights are given importance, then at least 10% times, we should consider men's rights too..." He stressed.
The MP further spoke about the harassment that the old parents of the accused husband have to face under the Dowry Act, and how family members are also wrapped in litigation for years.
Addressing this issue, Rudy suggested that more and more Family Courts should be set up and counseling should be administered to the couples, to make them understand how the law is being misused to disturb the family setup.
While concluding, Rudy requested the government to look into this aspect.
