A Mumbai court has granted custody of Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan, to Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) till October 7th.
Aryan Khan and 7 other accused were produced before the Additional Metropolitan Magistrate after they were allegedly apprehended in a rave party aboard a cruise ship. Khan's close friend, Arbaaz Merchant and model Munmun Dhamecha have also been sent to NCB custody.
Additional Solicitor General (ASG) argued that it is essential that Khan be remanded as drug use has become very common among the youth. He said, "Parents suffer, look at the impact of this."
The ASG sought for the custody of accused till 11th of October, he pointed out that there are chats between the accused and unknown persons on purchasing bulk quantity of drugs, these need to be investigated. He further argued that bail need not be considered since they were in the preliminary stage of investigation.
The NCB's special public prosecutor Advait Sethna contended that Aryan Khan was nabbed in connection with the different types of drugs found on him plus Rs 1,33,000 during the raid on the cruiser moored at the International Cruise Terminal.
Senior Advocate Sathish Manshinde appearing for Khan argued that Khan was merely invited to the ship for a party and no drugs was found in his possession.
He argued that Khan was in the final year of his studies and was not involved in trafficking drugs.
The court on conclusion of these arguments held that all offences under Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, are non-bailable and hence there was no question of granting bail. Further noting that what is to be considered here is whether custody needs to be given to NCB or not. The court noted that since it was argued by NCB that incriminating and shocking evidence was found, it is constrained to grant custody.
The remaining five accused Nupur Sarika, Ismeet Singh, Mohak Jaswal, Vikrant Chhoker and Gomit Chopra, who were arrested late on Sunday night are to be produced before the court later today for remand.
The eight accused were nabbed at various times on Sunday after the NCB raided their alleged drug party aboard the Cordelia Cruises ship on Saturday evening, these arrests sent shock waves among the general masses and the people in the entertainment industry alike.
