Synopsis

The contemnors in a planned manner started presenting false and fake court proceedings on Social Media, the letter states.

Advocate Shashank Shekhar Jha has written to the Attorney General of India seeking permission to initiate contempt of court case against Aam Aadmi Party, its officials and its supporters for tarnishing the image of Judicial system of India.

As per Jha,  a malicious campaign is going on over Social Media Platforms namely X, Facebook, etc. against the Indian Judiciary targeting the very foundation of the legal system of the country.

The AG has been told that AAP had posted an 80 seconds video in which the APP Officials blatantly misquoted the Delhi High Court.

Jha has further stated in his letter that an unauthorised recording of the proceedings of the Rouse Avenue Court dated March 28, 2024 of the entire submissions of Arvind Kejriwal made before the Ld. Magistrate has been posted on Social Media.

“…a fake conversation of the proceedings of the Rouse Avenue Court was spread on X with an intention to undermine the authority of the Court”, the letter addressed to AG Venkataramani states.

It has been further brought to the AG’s attention that after the Delhi High Court’s Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma dismissed Kejriwal’s plea challenging his ED arrest, attack on Judiciary started again.

“This time, in a planned manner, Contemners started targeting the Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma of Delhi High Court by labelling unwarranted allegations of her being affiliated to political party BJP, being sold, passing judgment without applying mind and worse…”, Jha has added.

Stating that as Kejriwal has approached the Supreme Court against the High Court’s dismissal of his petition challenging ED arrest, the contemnors have started casting aspersions about the top court’s judges.

“This is becoming a common trend and setting wrong precedence that the social media is misused to target the judiciary from those having political affiliations who through their illegal means use judiciary to push their political agenda thereby misquoting the proceedings, illegally recording it, casting aspersions on the presiding judges and worse….”, AG has been told.
