Supreme Court Appoints Ex-CJI Ranjan Gogoi In Arbitration Cases By Consent Of Parties

The Supreme Court has recently referred two arbitration cases to the Mumbai Centre of Arbitration, appointing Ex-CJI Ranjan Gogoi as the sole arbitrator.
A bench comprising Justices Indu Malhotra and Ajay Rastogi passed two orders in the arbitration cases of MCM Service Private Limited v. Italia Thai Development Public Company Ltd. and Grasim Industries Ltd. v. Visa Resources PTE. Ltd., out of which Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi was appointed the sole arbitrator in the erstwhile one.
The highest Court in the MCM case stated:
"By consent of the parties, we appoint Shri Ranjan Gogoi, former Chief Justice of India, as the Sole Arbitrator to resolve the disputes arising out of the Contract Agreement. The arbitral proceedings will be conducted by the Mumbai Centre for International Arbitration with the seat of the arbitration at New Delhi."
The highest Court in the Grasim Industries Ltd. case stated:
"With the consent of the parties, we designate the Mumbai Centre for International Arbitration [MCIA], 20th Floor, Express Towers, Ramnath Goenka Marg, Nariman Point, Mumbai as the Arbitral Institution which would conduct the arbitral proceedings in this case. We appoint Mr. Sharan Jagtiani, Senior Advocate, as the Sole Arbitrator."
