The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Manipur Public Service Commission to conduct the 2016 MPSC (Mains) Examination afresh within 4 months from today for filling up 82 posts of different categories of services.

A bench of Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice CT Ravikumar made it clear that only those candidates would be eligible to sit in examinations, who had appeared in the 2016 examination.

The bench was hearing a special leave petition filed by the Manipur Government challenging order of the Manipur High Court setting aside the MPSC Main Examination, 2016 initiated and conducted pursuant to the Notification dated April 7, 2016, issued by the MPSC.

In addition to this, the bench has further observed that "the candidates who have already appointed on the basis of results, candidates successful in the main examination will be given the continuity of service and consequential benefits."

The bench also made it clear that for the nature of the order that we have passed, we are not dilated on the grievance made in the Review Petition or SLP by concerned petitioners nor do we understand to have affirmed HC's opinion on the aspects. All contentions in the SLP are left open. Petitions are disposed of with the above terms," the bench noted in its order.

The High Court had further directed, "The Central Bureau of Investigation, New Delhi is directed to investigate into the conduct of the Main Examination, 2016 by the MPSC within a period of three months from the date of receipt of a copy of this judgment and order and take appropriate action thereafter in accordance with law."
