Court was told today that the guidelines shall be framed within a week.
The Supreme Court today has asked the Central government to frame guidelines governing the search and seizure of personal digital devices by police and central agencies without any further delay.
"Get it done", said a bench of Justices SK Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia.
When the matter was taken up, ASG SV Raju asked for some more time saying, "A committee has been formed. We will come out with something positive".
"When did we issue notice? Some timeframe has to be followed. Two years have passed!", the bench said in response.
The court later went on to list the matter on December 14.
The instant PIL hast been filed by Foundation for Media Professionals. Last month, court had given the Central government a month's time to suggest guidelines to govern such seizures.
Today, Senior Advocate Nitya Ramakrishnan told the bench that guidelines were needed as copies of necessary data could be taken instead of complete seizure.
"300 journalists were raided in NewsClick case. This is an absolute an assault. Some interim guidelines should be there", the senior counsel added.
