Supreme Court Justice Mohan M. Shantanagoudar passes away at 62

Supreme Court of India Justice MM Shantanagoudar passed away in the late evening hours of April 24, 2021.

He was 62. 

Justice Shantanagoudar assumed office at the apex court on February 17, 2017 and was set to retire in May 2023.

Prior to his appointment, he acted as an Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court in 2003. He was appointed as a permanent judge in the High Court in 2004. From September 22, 2016 to February 17, 2017 he served as the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court.

Early Career:

Justice Mohan M. Shantangoudar began his practice in Dharwad and Bengaluru in the Chambers of Mr I.G. Hiregoudar and Mr Shivaraj V Patil.

He began practising civil, criminal and constitutional matters independently in 1984 after being enrolled in the State bar council in 1980. 

He also served as Chairman of the Karnataka State Bar Council from 1995 to 1996. He  was Karnataka’s State Public Prosecutor from 1999 to 2002.
