Supreme Court Lawyers writes to CJI NV Ramana seeking suo moto action against hate speeches calling for genocide against muslims

76 Supreme Court Lawyers have written to the Chief Justice of India NV Ramana for taking suo moto action against alleged hate speech calling for the genocide against Muslims of the country.

The letter calls for action against two separate speeches at events organised by the Hindu Yuva Vahini in Delhi and Yati Narsinghanand in Haridwar between December 17 to 19, 2021allegedly consisting of hate speeches, open calls for genocide of Muslims.

As per the letter, the speeches has been made by:

1. Yati Narsinghanand Giri

2. Sagar Sindhu Maharaj

3. Dharam Das Maharaj

4. Premanand Maharaj

5. Sadhvi Annapoorna alias Pooja Shakun Pandey

6. Swami Anand Swaroop

7. Ashwani Upadhyay 

8. Suresh Chavhanke

9. Swami Prabodhanand Giri

The letter states that "the aforementioned event and the speeches delivered during the same are not mere hate speeches but amount to an open call for murder of an entire community. "

"The said speeches thus, pose a grave threat not just to the unity and integrity of our country but also endanger the lives of millions of Muslim citizens," the letter added.

The letter has sought to take action against the concerned guilty persons under Sections 120B, 121A, 153A, 153B, 295A, and 298 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.

It has sought for immediate judicial intervention to prevent such events that seem to have become the order of the day.

The signatories of the letter include former Judge of Patna High Court Anajana Prakash, Senior Advocates Dushyant Dave, Salman Khurshid, Raju Ramachandran, Huzefa Ahmadi, CU Singh, Meenakshi Arora, Advocates Vrinda Grover, Prashant Bhushan and several others.
