A petition filed by a Bhartiya Janta Party leader Jagjit Singh in the Supreme Court has sought an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the Sidhu Moose Wala murder case alleging that the removal of the security cover encouraged the assailants to immediately attack and kill Sidhu Moose Wala.

The plea filed through Advocate Namit Saxena alleges, "The instant case deals with a political motive and involves inter-state and international gang rivalry which requires full scale, thorough going and comprehensive investigation."

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu popularly known as Sidhu Moose Wala a prominent Punjabi singer was shot dead in broad daylight on May 29, 2022, by some unknown persons in Mansa district, Punjab while he was driving his car.

The plea states, "The way the cold-blooded killing was done in broad daylight is indicative of the fact that the state machinery in the state of Punjab has miserably failed in its duty not only to prevent the crime but also to effectively curb the menace of gangwars."

"That the security of the deceased was removed by the govt. of Punjab just a day prior to his barbaric killing and the information about the same was published in the media at large," the plea adds.

The plea further adds that the no reason for the withdrawal of the security was quoted and the removal was made widely available on public platforms and social media. In this regard, the plea states that the removal of the security cover encouraged the assailants to immediately attack and kill the deceased and send a message across to the community at large.

Singh submits that "the deceased as well as his father, on various instances had spoken about the death threats and ransoms the deceased was receiving from various crime syndicates, but the respondent no. 1 acting (Government of Punjab) in an ignorant manner removed the security cover of the deceased.

"It is not arcane knowledge the state of Punjab is ridden with the menace of drugs and gun culture. The state has unfortunately not ridden itself from the movement of separatists seeking establishment of Khalistan and therefore possibility of involvement of separatists in the murder also cannot be ruled out," Singh argues.

The plea contends that the State Police does not have jurisdiction to investigate the present facts of the case as inter-state and international gangsters are involved and the central agency ought to intervene in order to provide speedy, efficient, and conspicuous.
