Top Court grants conditional bail to MLA Prashant Kumar Jagdev in road rage case, no public speech for 1 year

Synopsis

Jagdev is alleged to have driven his white colored Discovery Car on a crowd, which led to injuries to many persons.

The Supreme Court on Monday granted conditional bail to Member of Legislative Assembly from Chilika Constituency, Prashant Kumar Jagdev. Court has ordered Jagdev not to address any public rally or political congregation of not more than five persons for one year.

It was alleged against Jagdev that he drove his white-colored Discovery Car, bearing Registration No. OD-02AY-5775 on a crowd, which led to injuries to many persons.

A cross FIR was also submitted by him in the case.

AOR Sibo Sankar Mishra, appearing for Jagdev, contended before the court that out of 20 injured victims, two received grievous injuries and others received simple injuries.

Those who received grievous injuries are also out of the hospital, Mishra submitted before a bench of Justices Hemant Gupta and Vikram Nath.

Thus, after considering the entire circumstances, the top court granted Jagdev bail, subject to the following conditions:

"1) He shall not visit the Chilika Constituency for a period of one year without taking permission from the Collector of the District.
2) Even within this period of one year, he shall not address any public rally or political congregation of not more than five persons.
3) He shall not influence any witness directly or indirectly."
