The State of Uttar Pradesh is maintaining a robust system of registration of migrant workers as they come into the State, the Supreme Court said in its judgment in the sun motu plea concerning plight and miseries of migrant's amid the pandemic.

“Their skill mapping has been completed and 10,44,710 labourers have already been given employment in different schemes of different departments of the State Government,” Court said.

While earmarking comprehensive directions to the Centre and State Governments, on questions concerning Migrant Labourers amid the second wave, Court noted that the State of UP has a portal on the website of the Relief Comissioner with all relevant details of the migrant workers, uploaded in real time.

Court noted that as per the data provided, as many as 37,84,255 migrant workers have returned to their native places during the entire Covid-19 pandemic period.

“It is further submitted that the rahat.up.nic.in portal is also being utilized to identify workers other than registered workers for availing of the benefit of the decision taken by the State Cabinet on 15.05.2021 to provide all eligible persons a sustenance allowance of Rs.1000 per month by way of direct Bank Transfer. The rahat.up.nic.in portal is to be utilized for the purpose of such registration of such beneficiaries. As on 08.06.2021 the data/details of 12,92,247 such persons has been uploaded on the rahat portal since 18.05.2021,” Court said.
