Will restore security of 424 persons from June 7: Punjab Govt informs High Court

The Punjab government on Thursday informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that it will restore the security cover to all 424 people from June 7, which was withdrawn temporarily for the Amritsar Ghalughara event.
Court was hearing a plea filed by former Deputy Chief Minister Om Prakash Soni, who had recently challenged the state government’s decision to withdraw the security provided to him.
Court, on June 1, had asked the State government for a detailed report on the number of people whose security was taken and had also asked it to furnish the reason for the same.
Advocate Madhu Dayal, counsel for O.P. Soni stated, “Punjab government has said that the security was withdrawn temporarily for the Amritsar Ghalughara event and it would be reinstated by June 7. The government will mark the responsibility of the person who circulated the list which had the names of people whose security was withdrawn.”
“Punjab government has presented their report on the number of people whose security was taken and the reason for which their security was curtailed in a sealed envelope. They didn’t have the Central government’s report on this and have asked for more time,” added Dayal.
Earlier, the Punjab High Court on May 28, had withdrawn the security cover provided to 424 people in the State. It included the renowned Punjabi Singer and Congress Leader Sidhu Mooosewala, who was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa, a day after.
