“You are a member of party in power”: Supreme Court rejects Trinamool Congress politician’s plea for anticipatory bail

Krishna Kanta Barman, a Zilla Parishad President and a member All India Trinamool Congress politician from Coach Behar today approached the Supreme Court seeking anticipatory bail on ground of intra-party conflict.

According to the submission of his Counsel in the court, Barman, despite being a member of the ruling party is a victim of political rivalry owing to many factions within the party. She submitted that Barman is a well known philanthropist and unsubstantiated allegations have been levelled against him to demean and malign him.

The Chief Justice of India NV Ramana on hearing his submissions remarked “We could have considered had you been in the other party, you are a member of party in power. We cannot consider.”

The bench also consisting of Justices AS Bopanna and Hima Kohli dismissed the plea and asked Barman to surrender and seek other legal remedies.
