The Zee TV Anchor Rohit Ranjan has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the FIRs registered against him pertaining to the misrepresented video of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
The matter was mentioned by Senior Advocate Siddharth Luthra stating that the anchor made an error during the show and later apologised for the same. The video has been taken down.
Luthra informed the bench that the Noida police arrested him yesterday and later released him on bail. It was further informed that now the Chattisgarh police wants to arrest him.
A bench of Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice JK Maheshwari allowed the urgent mentioning and listed the matter tomorrow.
However, the bench got angry after the AOR informed the bench that the matter is not registered yet. The bench said that this is not even on record, not registered which is unacceptable. "You should have briefed the senior counsel accordingly," Justice Banerjee added. Later, Luthra apologised.
A video of Rahul Gandhi giving a speech in reference to the case of vandalising his office in Wayanad, Kerala, was allegedly related to the Udaipur incident, wherein he allegedly said that the accused should be forgiven. However, after the show, the channel published an apology.
