Regional Conference on Environment, 2025 to be Held in Chennai on December 6th & 7th, 2025
The NGT Zonal Bench, Chennai, will host the Regional Conference on Environment 2025 on 6-7 December, bringing together judges, experts, and policymakers to address pressing environmental challenges and strengthen institutional collaboration for sustainable development
NGT’s 2025 Regional Environment Conference to Focus on Enforcement, Waste Management, and Coastal Protection
The Zonal Bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), Chennai, is organizing the Regional Conference on Environment, 2025 on the 6th and 7th of December 2025.
The conference is being held under the leadership of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Prakash Shrivastava, Chairperson, National Green Tribunal, and under the guidance of Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana, along with other esteemed Members of the NGT.
The two-day conference will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr. Justice M.M. Sundresh, Judge, Supreme Court of India, who will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest, in the presence of other distinguished dignitaries including Hon’ble Mr. Justice Aravind Kumar, Judge, Supreme Court of India (Special Guest), Hon’ble Mr. Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, Chief Justice of the High Court of Madras (Guest of Honour), and Hon’ble Mr. Thangam Thennarasu, Minister, Government of Tamil Nadu, alongside Hon’ble Mr. Justice Prakash Shrivastava, Chairperson, NGT.
The conference will bring together judicial officers, environmental experts, administrators, academicians and civil society representatives to foster institutional collaboration and advance a unified vision for environmental protection and sustainable development.
Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s timeless message, “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed,” the event will focus on the urgent environmental challenges of the southern region.
The conference will include three Technical Sessions; The First session will address "Environmental Law Enforcement & Biodiversity Conservation Role of Regulatory Authorities" chaired by Hon’ble Mr. Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque, Judge, High Court of Kerala. The second session will discuss "Solid Waste and Biomedical Waste Management Policy Overview" chaired by Hon’ble Mr. Justice D. Bharatha Chakravarthy, Judge, High Court of Madras. The Third session will focus on "Challenges in Protecting Coastal Zones" under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Suraj Govindaraj Judge, High Court of Karnataka.
The conference will conclude with a Valedictory Session graced by Hon’ble Mr. Justice R. Mahadevan, Judge, Supreme Court of India;
The session will also be graced by Smt. Supriya Sahu, I.A.S., Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Environment, Climate Change & Forests, Government of Tamil Nadu, Mr. A.R.L. Sundaresan, Additional Solicitor General of India, High Court of Madras, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Prakash Shrivastava, Chairperson, NGT and Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana, Judicial Member, NGT, Southern Zone Bench. A Prize Distribution Ceremony will follow, recognizing outstanding contributions in the field of environmental protection.
