[Delhi Excise Policy Case] Court grants bail to 5 accused including 2 former excise Dpt Officials
The Court has sought response from the CBI on the accused persons' regular bail plea and has scheduled a hearing for January 24, 2023.
Noting that 'only two accused were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)', a Delhi Court on Tuesday granted interim bail to five accused, including two excise department officials in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy Case.
During the hearing, the court noted that Aam Aadmi Party communication in-charge Vijay Nair and Hyderabad-based businessman Abhishek Boinpally were the only two accused who got arrested in the present case and were also granted bail in the CBI case on November 14, 2022.
On November 25, CBI filed a chargesheet against Vijay Nair and Abhishek Boinpally, Arun Ramchandra Pillai, Mootha Gautam, Sameer Mahendru, and two excise department officials, Kuldeep and Narendra Singh in the Delhi liquor policy case.
On Tuesday, Special Judge MK Nagpal of the Rouse Avenue Court granted bail to the two former excise department officials, Kuldeep Singh and Narender Singh. And Arun Ramchandra Pillai, Mootha Gautam, Sameer Mahendru were also granted bail in the CBI case. The Judge granted them bail on a personal bond of Rs. 50,000 and surety of like amount.
While granting bail to the five accused, the court sought a response from the CBI on the regular bail pleas, and accordingly, scheduled the hearing for January 24, 2023.
The court noted that Sameer Mahendru, Vijay Nair, and Abhishek Boinpally were also arrested by the ED in an Excise Money Laundering case, and their bail petition is pending before the trial court, thus, they shall remain in judicial custody.
Recently, CBI challenged the trial courts order granting bail to Aam Aadmi Party communication in-charge Vijay Nair and Hyderabad-based businessman Abhishek Boinpally in the Delhi High Court.
