1. [Not taking due care while overtaking, either stationary or moving vehicle, amounts to rash and negligent driving] The Delhi High Court recently observed not taking due care while driving a vehicle, and in particular overtaking, either stationary or moving vehicle, would also amount to rash and negligent driving. The court was hearing a plea by a family member of a motorcycle rider who died after colliding with a DTC bus parked in the middle of the road without any signal or indicator on the night of July 22, 2012. Through the present plea, the appellant, a family member of the deceased, sought enhancement of compensation granted by the tribunal.

2. [Outstanding dues of Waqf Board employees] The Delhi High Court has recently directed the Delhi government and the Delhi Waqf Board authorities to pay board employees' overdue salaries and other benefits within two weeks. The court was hearing a plea filed by the Delhi Waqf Board Employees Association, wherein they alleged that they had not been paid a salary and other allowances for over six months.

3. [Sukesh Chandrashekhar] The Delhi High Court has recently granted more time to conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar to file his written submissions in the plea. Counsel appearing for Sukesh sought more time to file the written submissions. The counsel appearing for ED informed the court that they have filed their written submissions in the plea today itself, and the same is yet to be placed on record.

4. [Muslim staffers to assist Haj pilgrims] The Delhi High Court has sought the Center’s response to a plea seeking an opportunity for all Muslim employees of Centre, States, and Union Territories to assist Haj pilgrims instead of deputing only Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel. The plea filed by Aamir Javed, an advocate, sought direction to amend an office memorandum of March 20, 2023, in order to give opportunities to all Muslim employees of Centre, States, and Union Territories to assist Haj pilgrims as coordinators (admin), assistant Haj officers and Haj assistants for Haj in 2023. “Otherwise, the office memorandum violates Article 14 (right to equality) of the Constitution”, the plea claimed.

5. [Liquor Policy Scam] AAP leader Manish Sisodia has moved the Delhi High Court against the trial court's order denying him bail in the Central Bureau of Investigation's case related to the Delhi liquor policy scam case. Senior Advocates Dayan Krishnan and Mohit Mathur appeared for Sisodia. The court issued a notice to CBI seeking a reply to the plea within two weeks.

6. [PMLA case against Satyendar Jain] The Delhi High Court ‘dismissed’ bail pleas filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Leader Satyendar Jain and two co-accused Ankush Jain and Vaibhav Jain in a money laundering case registered by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED). While denying bail to Jain, the court said that the broad probability indicated that four concerned companies were "controlled and operated by Satyendar Kumar Jain".

7. [Plea by PFI Chairman E. Abubacker] The Delhi High Court recently allowed former Popular Front of India (PFI) Chairman Erappungal Abubacker, lodged in prison under an Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) case, to withdraw his plea seeking release on account of ill health. Court noted, “At this juncture, Mr. Adit Pujari appearing for the appellant, on instructions seeks to withdraw this appeal with liberty to approach Trial Court. In view of circumstances, the chargesheet in relation to the appellant has since been filed”. Accordingly, the court granted Pujari the liberty to approach the Trial Court for Medical Bail.

8. [Bail Hearing of Hyderabad-based businessman Benoy Babu] Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, on behalf of Babu told the Delhi High Court that “he is just a cog in the wheel”. The senior counsel stated that Pernod Richard being one of the stakeholders had made a suggestion to the government with regard to the Delhi Excise Policy. The suggestion was to keep the wholesaler as the Delhi Government, so in the chain (Manufacturer, Wholesaler, Retailer & Customer) and not to make it completely private, he said, “However, everything was made private, ultimately they scrapped the policy”, he added. Babu was denied bail by the Trial Court on February 16.
