[Kallakurichi school girl death case] Madras High Court grants bail to five accused
The 17-year-old girl had allegedly committed suicide on July 13, 2022, over alleged mistreatment by school authorities.
;The Madras High Court on Friday granted bail to five staff members of the Kaniyamoor Sakthi Matriculation School in Kallakurichi district in connection with the death of a Class 12 student on the school premises in July, reports the News Minute.
Justice GK Illanthiraiyan granted bail to school principal S. Sivasangaran, Correspondent Ravikumar, Secretary Shanti, and two others.
Earlier this week, while hearing the petition of the five arrested persons, the High Court questioned the CB-CID on why all evidence to hold the five officials had not yet been submitted.
On July 13, a Class 12 girl was discovered dead in the school's hostel, and a note was found in her room that claimed that she had been "tortured" by some of the school's teachers.
The girl's family and others had staged a sit-in near the school on the Kallakurichi-Salem highway, alleging foul play in her death.
Later, on the girl's family's request, the High Court ordered that the case of her death be transferred to the CB-CID.
Recently, the Supreme Court refused to entertain a plea by the father of the girl who sought the court’s permission to choose a doctor of his choice to be part of a team of experts to conduct a fresh postmortem on his daughter's body. The court, while refusing to entertain the plea, granted liberty to the father to approach the high court and bring all the information to their notice.
Earlier, the High Court permitted the re-postmortem of the body of the girl, who committed suicide in the Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu, even without her parent's cooperation.
On July 19, 2022, a Supreme Court bench led by the Chief Justice of India, refused to pass an interim order in the father’s plea to stay the re-postmortem ordered by Madras High Court.
