The plea sought direction to initiate criminal proceedings against Karan Johar, Disney+ Hotstar, Dharmatic Entertainment, and others to eradicate such use of sexual comments and to protect the teenagers from committing offences against women.
A Public Interest Litigation plea has been filed before the Calcutta High Court against the Talk Show 'Koffee With Karan' alleging that it corrupts the minds of teenagers and also feeds the lascivious interests of men besides insulting the modesty of a woman.
The plea sought direction to initiate criminal proceedings against Karan Johar, Disney+ Hotstar, Dharmatic Entertainment, and others to eradicate such use of sexual comments in order to protect the teenagers from committing offences against women.
The plea stated that Karan Johar is the host and presenter of the Talk Show who has courted controversy for using sexually explicit comments and also for supporting nepotism in the past.
"On 10th January 2019, two Indian Cricketers namely Kannaur Lokesh Rahul and Hardik Pandya used sexual comments and also insulted the modesty of a woman for which the Talk Show was severely criticized," the plea added.
The plea filed by BJP Leader Nazia Elahi Khan stated that initiation of criminal proceedings has been sought to eradicate the use of sexual comments and even protect the teenagers.
The petitioner has put up an argument that since the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, this Talk Show was boycotted and since 2022 the Talk Show has been shown on the Over The Top platform in order to shield itself from any censure or ban.
