On August 22, 2024, Justice Shamim Ahmed requested a reconsideration of his transfer, but the Collegium deemed his plea unmeritorious
The Supreme Court Collegium on August 30, 2024, recommended moving Justice Shamim Ahmed from the Allahabad High Court to the Madras High Court.
On August 21, the collegium had proposed transferring Justice Shamim Ahmed for the "better administration of justice". Although the judge made a request the next day for reconsideration of this decision, the collegium did not accept it finding no merit in it.
Notably, the transfer decision coincides with a highly publicized incident allegedly involving Justice Ahmed.
A video surfaced on August 21, showing a violent altercation allegedly involving the judge’s family and a common man after a car clash. The footage, which went viral, allegedly depicts the judge’s son aggressively confronting another driver, leading to a physical altercation. Allegedly, during the incident, a reporter who filmed the altercation was also attacked.
Justice Ahmed completed his law degree at Allahabad University and registered as an advocate with the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh on April 17, 1993. He practiced various fields of law, including Civil, Constitutional, Service, Labour, Company, and Criminal law, at the Allahabad High Court. Additionally, he served as central government counsel in the High Court from August 4, 2004, until his promotion. He was later appointed as an Additional Judge.
