The Bombay High Court has pulled up the police officials over the investigation conducted by them in the Badlapur Sexual Assault Case.
A division bench of the high court comprising Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice P.K. Chavan was hearing a suo moto PIL registered by the high court after two kindergarten-going minor girls were sexually assaulted by the cleaner of the school.
The high court stated that the police should not try to file a chargesheet hurriedly under public pressure and should conduct a proper investigation of the case.
While referring to the Central Government's slogan 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao,' the bench said the state should implement 'Beta Padhao, Beti Bachao,' suggesting that the state should take steps to raise awareness.
The high court stated that Justices Sadhana Jadhav and Shalini Phansalkar Joshi, along with IPS Officer Meera Borwankar, would now be part of the committee constituted by the state government to provide suggestions for improving the safety and security of children in schools.
The bench also expressed its displeasure over the manner in which the investigation was conducted, stating that the case diary was maintained in a stereotypical way and did not reflect concrete steps taken by the Special Investigation Team.
The bench will now hear the matter after four weeks.
