In his plea, Siddique asserted that, based on the agreement, he was owed Rs. 5 crore by the movie's producer, Anandita Studios

A single judge bench of the Bombay High Court presided over by Justice SM Modak, has denied interim relief to Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddique in his plea against Zee Studios for payment related to his leading role in the movie 'Haddi'

Justice Modak said that there was no urgency in the case until Zee was given an opportunity to file a reply.

“I do not find any pressing urgency to pass an order until proper opportunity is given to the respondent to reply. Ultimately if the court comes to the conclusion, the prayer to deposit money will be granted and they will comply,” the judge said.

In his plea, Siddique asserted that, based on the agreement, he was owed Rs. 5 crore by the movie's producer, Anandita Studios. However, after the agreement with Anandita Studios, the studio entered into a new agreement with Zee Studios, which made Zee the sole and exclusive owner of the movie.

Anandita Studios informed Siddique in a letter that 4.5 crores out of the 5 crores had already been paid to him. Siddique was also informed that an additional 25 lakhs would be paid during the movie's promotion and another 25 lakhs after its release.

However, during a meeting involving a representative of Siddique and Zee, Siddique claimed that he had worked an additional 32 days and thus should be paid an additional Rs. 5 crore.

Zee's counsel argued that the movie's release was unrelated to Siddique's payment and that there was no obligation to pay him an extra Rs. 5 crore.

The counsel requested time from the court to respond to Siddique's suit, and the court agreed, scheduling the matter for a hearing in 4 weeks.
