The Bombay High Court has dismissed two petitions seeking a stay on the release of the movie “Match Fixing – The Nation is At Stake”, which is based on the 2008 Malegaon Blast Case and is set to release on November 15.
A division bench comprising Justice B.P. Colabawalla and Justice S.G. Sundaresan heard a petition filed by Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit, who argued that the film could influence the ongoing trial.
Purohit, an accused in the case, contended that the matter is highly sensitive and has had a significant impact on the nation, raising concerns that the movie might influence the judge and other parties involved in the judicial process.
Another petition argued that the film perpetuates negative stereotypes against Muslims, with the trailer portraying false and baseless depictions of Muslims as violent perpetrators and promoting hatred against the country.
In response, the producers submitted that a disclaimer would be added at the beginning of the movie, stating that it is a work of fiction.

The bench further questioned how a judge could be influenced by a movie but not by a book that has long been accessible to the public.
Consequently, the bench dismissed the petition, noting that it was misconceived.
