The court was informed that a practicing lawyer, working in the same court as the petitioner’s wife, was allegedly interfering in the petitioner’s matrimonial life
A physical altercation broke out inside the Allahabad High Court premises on April 2, 2025, between the parties to a child custody dispute, prompting the court to order an inquiry into the incident.
Taking serious note of the 'untoward incident', Justice Nand Prabha Shukla directed the Registrar General to investigate the scuffle and submit a report before the next hearing on May 1, 2025.
The high court was hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by a man, who sought custody of his two minor sons. During the proceedings, the children expressed their desire to stay with their mother.
The court, therefore, granted custody to the mother while allowing the father visitation rights every Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at a venue designated by the Commissioner of Police, Commissionerate Prayagraj.
However, tensions escalated in the courtroom when allegations surfaced against another person who was accused of interfering in the matrimonial life of the couple. Both the other person and the mother of the children are practicing advocates at the District Court in Allahabad. Amidst heated arguments, a physical altercation reportedly broke out among the parties, leading to a chaotic scene inside the court premises.
Condemning the unruly incident, the court directed officials to ensure that such disturbances are not repeated. Additionally, the Registrar (Compliance) was tasked with ensuring the petitioners’ safe return home.
Court posted the matter for further hearing on May 1, 2025.
