According to a letter addressed to Sessions Judge Madhu Jain, the Executive members of the Saket Bar Association condemned the brutal attack on a lawyer by local Gundas. They further called for cooperation from judicial officers at the Saket Courts.
Amid an alleged attack on lawyers, the advocates of Delhi's Saket District Court abstained from attending court on Tuesday, October 22, in an attempt to protest against the incident.
Per a Times of India article, Vinod Sharma, President of the Saket Bar Association, called for a strike to protest against the brutal attack on the advocate, which took place near a nursery close to Qutub Metro Station. In a letter addressed to Sessions Judge Madhu Jain, "the Executive members of the Saket Bar Association, unanimously resolved to abstain from work on October 22, 2024, in response to the brutal attack on a lawyer by local goons within the jurisdiction of PS Mehrauli." The letter, undersigned by Hon. Secretary Vipin Chaudhary, also sought the cooperation of judicial officers at the Saket Courts. Speaking to a legal correspondent from Lawbeat, Hon. Secretary Vipin Chaudhary of the Saket Bar Association explained that the attack took place during an office inauguration organized by the advocate when certain identified individuals arrived and attacked the lawyer which led to injuries. Following the incident, a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged in connection with the matter, and seven people have been detained.
"This was an extremely unfortunate incident that created a law and order situation. If such an incident can happen to a lawyer in the national capital, imagine the situation for advocates from Haryana, Punjab, etc. The police also took a considerable amount of time to act on it," Chaudhary added.Additional Secretary of the Saket Bar Association, Ravinder Bhati, also condemned the brutal attack, stating that such acts create a very unsafe environment for advocates nationwide and that such incidents must be condemned and prevented at all costs.
Notably, Saket Bar Association members received messages on their mobile phones stating, "Respected member, please completely abstain from work on October 22 due to the brutal attack on lawyers by local goons within the jurisdiction of PS Mehrauli."
