Delhi' Rouse Avenue Court extends CBI custody of Mumbai-based, Only Much Louder and Communications in-charge AAP, Vijay Nair, till October 20 in connection with the irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy case.
Special CBI Judge Raghubir Singh of the Rouse Avenue Court, Delhi, on Thursday, extended CBI custody of Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mumbai-based Only Much Louder and Communications in charge of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Vijay Nair till October 20 in connection with the irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy case.
Vijay Nair was arrested on September 27 and remanded to 5-day CBI custody for his alleged role in the irregularities in the Excise policy of the Delhi government.
Earlier, on Monday, Special Judge Raghubir Singh extended Nair’s CBI custody by four days, till October 6 in connection with the irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy case.
During the hearing on Monday i.e October 3, the court noted that the CBI had lodged the present case on August 17, 2022, under Section 120B read with 477A of IPC, further read with Section 7 Prevention of Corruption Act against 15 accused persons, Vijay Nair being one of them.
Court further noted that the first information report (FIR) in which Nair is charged contained allegations of numerous irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the Excise Policy of the NCT of Delhi for the fiscal year 2021-22 and that a thorough investigation was required to reach a logical conclusion.
On October 3, 2022, Senior Advocate Ramesh Gupta, appearing for Nair, contended that the only plausible reason for the prosecution's satisfaction was that he did not cooperate during the investigation. Gupta also claimed that there was no need to extend his police custody because he had already been detained for 5 days.
The Special Judge had observed that “the allegations as appearing in the FIR are serious and a detailed investigation is required to arrive at a logical conclusion in the due course. It would be in the interest of justice to allow further Police Custody of accused Vijay Nair up till the 6th of this month on which date, he shall be produced before the Court concerned during the Court hours."
