The Delhi High Court today heard a petition seeking immediate stop on traffic movement over the Agra Canal Bridge in South East Delhi at Meethapur and Madanpur Khadar. The court directed the petitioners to implead all necessary parties in the matter.
The single judge bench of Justice Rekha Palli was hearing a plea filed by one Balbeer Singh, a resident of the area filed through Advocate Mumtaz Ahmed and Satish Sharma.
The petitioner has submitted that the executive engineer had installed the Warning Boards before the entry on the said bridges, indicating that the bridge has been damaged and the use of the said bridge can lead to accidents.
However, even after the installation/ affixation of the boards, the petitioner pointed out that no traffic movement has been stopped by the respondents or by the traffic officials. The commuters are still using this bridge with heavy vehicles like trucks, trolleys, water tankers, lorries etc.
The petitioner has thus sought directions to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South East Delhi, Station House Officer(SHO) PS Sarita Vihar and SHO Kalindi Kunj to put permanent blockage over the entry and exit of bridge.
The petitioner has also sought for directions for a constant vigil to be maintained by the concerned authorities of both the blockages and a status report from the concerned authorities on the steps taken on the complaints made by the petitioner.
The court was however of the view that necessary parties are required to be impleaded in the petition and accordingly listed the matter for hearing on October 8.
