[LTC Scam Case] Delhi Court Sentences Former MP Anil Sahani To 2yrs Rigorous Imprisonment & Fine

Synopsis

The Rouse Avenue Court, Delhi sentenced Anil Kumar Sahani, N.S Nair, and Arvind Tiwari guilty of offences of criminal conspiracy reserved in the Leave Travel Concession (LTC) scam case. 

A Delhi Court on Saturday sentenced former Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Anil Kumar Sahani, and two others to two years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine of Rs.50,000/- each in connection with the Leave Travel Concession (LTC) scam case.

Special Judge MK Nagpal of the Rouse Avenue Court, Delhi sentenced Anil Kumar Sahani, N.S Nair, and Arvind Tiwari for offences of criminal conspiracy under Section 120B read with 420, 471 of IPC and Section 13(1)(d) read with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act.

Additionally, Sahani has also been held liable to undergo:

  • RI for a period of one year with a fine of Rs.25,000/- for the commission of the offence punishable under Section 201 IPC and in case of non-payment of the fine amount, he has been directed to further undergo RI for a period of three months.
  • RI for a period of one year and a fine of Rs.25,000/- for the commission of the offence punishable under Section 420 read with 511 IPC and in case of non-payment of this fine amount too, he has been directed to further undergo RI for a period of three months.
  • RI for a period of three years and also to pay a fine of Rs.2,00,000/- for the commission of the offence punishable under Section 471 IPC and in case of non-payment of this fine amount, he has been directed to further undergo RI for a period of six months.
  • RI for a period of one year and a fine of Rs.25,000/- for the commission of the offence punishable under Section 15 read with 13 (1) (d) read with 13 (2) of the PC Act and in case of non-payment of this fine amount, he has been directed to further undergo RI for a period of three months.

The court directed that all the sentences imposed on Sahani will run concurrently, and the fine shall be payable by him separately in each of the said offences.

However, Court ordered that the sentences of imprisonment imposed on all three convicts are suspended to enable them to file appeals.

Court also directed them to be released on bail on furnishing the personal bond of Rs.1 lakh each with one surety of like amount by October 6, 2022.
