The State of Maharashtra today sought a weeks’ time to place before the Court, the final guidelines on door to vaccination for senior citizens above 75 years, specially abled and the bed ridden.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Dipankar Datta & Justice GS Kulkarni was hearing a plea filed by Advocate Dhruti Kapadia for seeking directions for door-to-door vaccination in the state for senior citizens above 75 years of age, specially abled and the bed ridden.

Government Pleader Geeta Shastri today submitted draft guidelines for home vaccination and asked the bench not to circulate the same to the parties since it was only in a draft form.

The bench on perusal of the report said “The State Covid Task Force has applied their mind for incorporating such measures as would be beneficial for the health of the elderly and disabled citizens in whose interest the guidelines have been made. We hope by next Tuesday the state would be in a position to place before us the guidelines”.

Advocate Dhruti Kapadia submitted that there is already a policy which provides healthcare for senior citizens. The bench was however of the view that the existing policy does not cover a special disease like Covid 19.

In the previous hearing the bench had said that the Central Government had not explicitly refrained state governments from providing door to door vaccination.

The bench had also said even if Centre does not formulate a policy upon it, the High Court gives “green signal” to the State to carry out door-to-door vaccination as per a defined plan
