In a significant development, the Governing Council of the Oudh Bar Association today resolved to boycott the court of Justice Smt. Sangita Chandra until October 1, 2024

The Governing Council of the Association held a meeting today at 8:30 am, which was virtually presided over by President RD Shahi and was convened by General Secretary Manoj Kumar Dwivedi.

The agenda of the meeting was to address earlier complaints against Justice Smt. Sangeeta Chandra and a recent incident involving Senior Advocate Shri Satish Chandra Mishra, which occurred on September 27, 2024. The agenda also included a crucial discussion regarding a proposed boycott of Justice Chandra's court from September 30, 2024.

After a thorough review of the issues presented in an application by Advocate Ajay Kumar Shukla, which was supported by several other advocates, the council unanimously resolved to proceed with the boycott until October 1, 2024.

This resolution also calls for Justice Chandra's transfer from the Allahabad High Court to another High Court.

The next meeting of the Oudh Bar Association Governing Council is scheduled for October 1, 2024, at 4:30 P.M., where further decisions regarding this matter will be deliberated.

Notably, on September 28, 2024, the Oudh Bar Association wrote to the Chief Justice of the High Court to regarding several complaints about the alleged misbehavior of Justice Mrs. Sangeeta Chandra towards all the members of Oudh Bar, junior and senior, and insulting them in the courtroom.

The letter also referred to the incident on September 27, which alleged that Justice Mrs. Sangeeta Chandra's behavior and language towards Mr. Satish Chandra Mishra—a prominent member of the Elder Committee of the Avadh Bar, former General Secretary, and multiple-term Rajya Sabha MP, as well as a former Advocate General and Bar Council member—were marked by autocracy and dictatorial tendencies during the hearing.

"An honourable judge should not be arrogant while discharging her office, but she should think of giving justice to the plaintiff. During the hearing of the case, honourable Justice Mrs. Sangeeta Chandra, showing her dictatorship and supremacy, passed an order in open court to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against senior advocate Shri Satish Chandra Mishra, going against the dignity of her office," the letter stated.
