Synopsis

The PIL plea has been filed against the State of Rajasthan over the bad condition of the State run schools

The Rajasthan High Court on Friday directed the Advocate General, Government of Rajasthan to take instructions on the status of all Government schools in Rajasthan.

A bench of the Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Anoop Kumar Dhand said referring to the Allahabad High Court judgment that unless and until IAS officers are forced to send their children to government schools, Government schools will not be improved.

The order has been passed in Public Interest Litigation plea filed by Social Jurist, a Civil Rights Group through Advocate Ashok Agarwal stating that lakhs of students are studying in dismal condition schools run by State of Rajasthan in District Bharatpur and Alwar and has severe shortage of teachers in the schools comparing with numbers of students enrolled and also lacks State of Art School buildings to enable students’ study in a conducive atmosphere with security and dignity of survival.

The plea highlighted that these Government schools are running in dilapidated conditions and lacking in basic amenities and facilities like drinking water, functional toilet block, electricity, desk, cleanliness, functional blackboard, playground, etc.

It has been alleged that Rajasthan has Constitutional as well as Statutory duty to ensure that students studying in schools run by them study in safe and secured school buildings and students are provided with all basic facilities and amenities which are required by the students for a conducive educational environment in the school.
