Synopsis

Two petitions were filed to include Naidu as an accused in the cash-for-votes scam case and to transfer the investigation in the case to CBI

The Supreme Court has today refused a petition filed by YSR Congress Party leader Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, seeking to register FIRs against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the cash-for-votes scam.

A bench of Justice MM Sundresh and Justice Aravind Kumar has also issued a stern warning to Reddy, directing him not to use the judiciary as a platform for political gains.

Court has upheld the upheld the Andhra Pradesh High Court decision from December 9, 2016, which had rejected Reddy’s plea to implicate Naidu in the case.

Allegedly MLC Elvis Stephenson-nominated MLA was offered Rs 50 lakh cash for casting his vote in favour of Telugu Desam Party in the MLC elections.

Reddy had approached the ACB court in Hyderabad complaining that though the first report of the ACB in the cash-for-vote scam had referred to Naidu 22 times, the investigation agency did not name him as an accused.

Principal special judge of the ACB court had then directed the ACB, Telangana, to investigate the case and file its report. The high court quashed the complaint and ACB court orders, granting a relief to Naidu.
