Justice DY Chandrachud, judge, Supreme Court today expressed anxiety about media reports stipulating that judges are not taking up the case. He remarked, “there is a limit to targeting us!”

The bench was hearing a mentioning, seeking listing of a case pertaining to attacks on Christians. While the matter was initially listed for hearing on July 11, 2022, it was adjourned to July 15, 2022 as the bench could not hear on the day of reopening.

Justice Chandrachud had tested positive for COVID-19 and could not hold court. The counsel mentioned the matter today before a bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Surya Kant, pointing out that there was criticism in media about judges not taking up the case.

Miffed by this, Justice Chandrachud remarked “Give us judges a break. I was down with Covid and hence, could not take up the matter. I read in the news that judges are not taking it up. There is a limit to targeting us!”

The plea filed by Archbishop of Bangalore Diocese Most Rev Peter Machado alleges  that there is targeted attack on Christians by certain organisations. It seeks for registration of FIRs and conduct an investigation into the same by an SIT.
