The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the Delhi Government to consider a plea seeking setting up of covid care centre's for Judicial officers on priority basis.

The division bench comprising Justices Vipin Sanghi and Jasmeet Singh was hearing an application filed by the Delhi Judicial Service Association which brought to the Court’s notice that although meeting was held pursuant to the Court’s direction, no progress has been made with respect to making arrangements for judicial officers and their family members in order to ensure that the Judicial Officers and their immediate family members may receive immediate medical treatment in hospitals in the event of being infected with Covid 19.

Advocate Dayan Krishnan appearing for the Association submitted that there is no centralised government officer and the nodal officer's appointed at district level are not being able to cater to the needs of the judicial officers and their family members.

He therefore submitted that a centralised mechanism should be placed for this purpose.

Justice Sanghi observed that,

“just like officers of Delhi Government who are being given preferential treatment, Judicial officers specially at the district level should also be declared frontline workers in order to keep the wheels of justice running.”

Advocate Rahul Mehra appearing for Delhi Government submitted that the association may submit their representation which will be considered by the Chief Secretary in an online meeting so that a satisfactory mechanism can be evolved to provide medical treatment to judicial officers and their family members.

Mehra further submitted that the state shall consider the judicial officers who are serving at the district levels be declared as frontline workers in order to keep the wheels of justice running.

The bench has asked the GNCTD to address the issue and place a report before the bench. Matter will be heard on May 27.
