Court has adjourned the matter and listed it for hearing in April
The Supreme Court of India has said the consolidation of suits before the Allahabad High Court relating to Krishna Janmabhoomi -Shahi Idgah dispute may be a beneficial thing for all parties concerned.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar has said that clubbing will benefit both the Hindu and Muslim sides as it will avoid multiple proceedings.
"Suits not similar in nature are consolidated. It will lead to complications...", court was told today.
In November 2023 Supreme Court had also declined to stay the Allahabad High Court's order transferring to itself all the suits filed before the Mathura Court in connection with Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah dispute.
A plea was filed by Committee of Management Trust, Shahi Masjid Idgah against the Allahabad High Court's May 26 order, directing for transfer of all suits related to claims on the birthplace of Lord Krishna, to itself.
Notably, on July 21, 2023, Supreme Court had orally observed that maybe it would be better if the issue involving the Krishna Janmbhoomi- Shahi Idgah dispute was settled at the High Court level as it would maybe have a better ability to handle a suit of this nature.
The suits before the high court are related to 13.37 acre land at Katra, Keshav Dev. The main relief sought through the suits is a direction for removal of the mosque from the land in question.
A claim has been made by many devotees of Lord Krishna that the Shahi Idgah Mosque is built over the land belonging to the deity and the actual birthplace of Lord Krishna lies beneath it.
It has been alleged that the 13.37 acres of land, which also includes the mosque area, is the Krishna Janmbhoomi land, and, the illegal structure was raised by Muslims over it.
