While the Supreme Court today discussed the perils of live streaming of courtrooms, Justice Hrishikesh Roy could not stop himself from making the best of a bad situation.
As the CJI Chandrachud led bench was rising today after expunging certain "unnecessary observations" made by Justice Rajbir Sehrawat of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the CJI indicated that Justice Roy wanted to say something.
Addressing the Solicitor General, Justice Roy said, "SG was referring about perils of live streaming..but I have one thing to say..it gives a serious advantage to those who are photogenic..".
This resulted with the bench and the Solicitor laughing.
The Supreme Court also addressed the issues of live streaming and said, "In this age where proceedings are reported the judges must exercise some restraint..we hope and trust that such circumspection shall be observed in the future..".
Today, the top court has expunged certain remarks made by Justice Rajbir Sehrawat of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, over the supreme court' s order staying the contempt proceedings initiated in a case before the high court.
Yesterday the supreme court had taken Suo Moto cognizance of the orders passed by Justice Rajbir Sherawat of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on July 17. Notably, Justice Sehrawat called the stay order to be "rubbish" and a video of him saying the judges are required to be sent for judicial training is also circulating.
When the matter was taken up today, CJI remarked that top court was pained by the observations made by the single judge.
