This observation came to be made in response to Sr. Advocate Singhvi's submission in Manish Sisodia's bail plea that a report was being published by the media on the merits of the AAP leader's case, every time it was listed
Justice Sanjiv Khanna of the Supreme Court of India today remarked that media reports on cases being argued before court, does not affect the judges.
"It does not affect us..we have to get used to it..", said the judge.
It is to be noted that a CJI DY Chandrachud led bench of the Supreme Court had issued directions to the Ministry of Home Affairs just two days back, asking it to prepare comprehensive guidelines for media briefings by the police.
Court had further directed Director Generals of Police (DGPs) of all states to submit their suggestions for the said manual.
Today, the bench also comprising Justice SV Bhatti made this observation on media reports while hearing the bail plea filed by former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia in a case registered against him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Delhi excise policy scam case.
Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Sisodia, made a submission on media reportage of the case involving the AAP leader.
"Everyday this matter is listed, a report comes by the media, talking about merits..this court is already considering to have guidelines on media reporting..", he said.
In response to his submission, Justice Khanna made the aforementioned observation.
Furthermore, the matter has now been listed for hearing on October 4, after Singhvi told the bench about him requiring at least 2-3 hours to make his submissions.
On July 14, the Supreme Court had issued notice on the bail plea filed by Sisodia after it was told that there were serious concerns about Sisodia's wife's health.
Sisodia had approached the Supreme Court, challenging the Delhi High Court's July 3rd order whereby a single judge bench of Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma had 'denied' bail to him.
Justice Sharma, while denying bail to Sisodia, had said, "The allegations are that deliberate loopholes were made to facilitate illegal and criminal activity. It is also pertinent to mention that investigations have revealed that 65% stakes were given to 'South Group' in Indo Spirits to make it a mechanism of continuous generation and channelization of proceeds of crime".
