Court has ruled that there is "no case to interfere with the anticipatory bail granted" to Bhavani Revanna, who is accused of kidnapping a woman allegedly sexually assaulted by her son, Prajwal
The Supreme Court of India today refused to entertain a plea by the State of Karnataka challenging the anticipatory bail granted to Bhavani Revanna, mother of Prajwal Revanna, who is accused of kidnapping women to aid her son in sexually exploiting these women.
A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan upheld the anticipatory bail granted to Bhavani Revanna, stating, "The petitioner is a woman of around 55-56 years. The allegations pertain to the charges under Sections 364A and 365 of the IPC, against her son. The principal accused, her son Prajwal Revanna, has already been arrested and subjected to custodial interrogation. There is no case to interfere with the anticipatory bail granted."
Court also noted that the chargesheet had been filed in the present case and that there was no reason to interfere with the order granting anticipatory bail.
However, the counsel for the State of Karnataka argued that Bhavani Revanna was directly involved in getting women for her son and that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to investigate the matter further.
The accused Bhavani Revanna allegedly also attempted to prevent a woman, who was sexually assaulted by her son (Prajwal Revanna), from filing a complaint.
Prajwal's parents, HD Revanna and Bhavani Revanna, are facing allegations of kidnapping a woman who filed a sexual assault complaint against their son, Prajwal Revanna.
Currently, Prajwal is in custody facing multiple allegations of sexually assaulting several women and recording these assaults.
Notably, in April, the case came to light when thousands of pen drives containing videos of Prajwal Revanna’s alleged sexual assaults were circulated in Karnataka's Hassan.
