Rahul Gandhi will appear before a Civil Court at Surat today to put forth his statement in a defamation suit, filed against him by MLA from Surat West, Purnesh Modi, for Gandhi’s alleged attempt at defaming the entire Modi community.

Gandhi had said, while addressing an assembly rally, “How come all thieves have Modi as the common surname?”

The case was put up for final statement of Gandhi on June 24 after adjournments due to the pandemic & the Court had directed him to be present in person.

After Gandhi’s controversial statement, Surat West MLA Purnesh Modi had filed a defamation suit against him.
