The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation has restarted school bus services to a village in Telangana after the Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana responded to 8th standard student Vaishnavi’s letter seeking restoration of services,  which had been stopped due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Taking into account a letter by an 8th standard student dated September 17, seeking restoration of school bus services to her village which were stopped in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, the CJI NV Ramana had asked the corporation to restore services so that students can reach school on time and the Right to Education of the children is honoured.

P Vaishnavi stated that she and her siblings, Preethi and Praneeth, were facing inconveniences in going to school and college since the bus service to her village was stopped in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. She is a resident of Chidedu village in Manchal Mandal of Rangareddy district and according to her several others from the village were also facing similar problems.

“Ever since my father passed away in the middle of the first wave of Covid-19, my mother has been taking care of us. We are forced to spend Rs 150 to go to school and college which are 6 km and 18 km away from our village respectively. Several students and other residents of our village are also facing similar difficulties,” she wrote in Telugu in the letter addressed to CJI.

MD VC Sajjanar congratulated Vaishnavi’s initiative and affirmed the Corporation’s commitment.

The TSRTC assured that it will provide connectivity for the benefit of students of schools and colleges in the entire state of Telangana. The MD said the corporation officials have already restored about 30 services during the last one month as per their own information and also as per the request of villagers and students. Continuous services are being made by TSRTC officials to restore such services, it said.
