The Supreme Court today dismissed a PIL challenging appointment of Deputy Chief Ministers in various states.
CJI DY Chandrachud led bench refused to entertain the petition filed by Public Political Party while observing that the same "lacked substance".
The PIL challenging the appointments for being violative of Article 14.
"This is setting a wrong example, what is the basis of appointing a deputy CM?", the bench also comprising Justices Pardiwala and Manoj Misra was told.
A further submission was made that there existed no such post under the Indian Constitution.
"A deputy Chief Minister is first and foremost a minister in the government of the state...this doesn't breach the Constitution..", the CJI observed while dismissing the plea.
