Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy has written to the Election Commission of India urging it to take action against Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam as some of its leaders has called for “Genocide of Brahmins in Tamil Nadu.”

PGurus has reported that Swamy has demanded that DMK’s registration should be canceled for making such atrocious statements. He has also offered to argue his case before the ECI if need be. Swamy has noted that since DMK is a registered political party, such statements by its leaders are in violation of the Representation of Peoples Act.

P Rajiv Gandhi, a spokesperson of DMK, allegedly made a speech “advocating for the genocide of Brahmins of Tamil Nadu adding that this was recommended by EV Ramaswami Nayakar (Periyar) who is the founder of the Dravidian movement.” Swamy's letter states that the party has violated the principles laid down by the Representation of Peoples Act.

Swamy has said that such remarks directly impinge on the fundamental rights of the community in Tamil Nadu. The letter states that the remark could affect the fundamental rights of the Brahmin community as they will not exercise their voting rights out of fear of making it easy for DMK to win.

The letter notes that Swamy is ready to argue and adduce legal evidence the Election Commission takes notice and holds prima facie that this threat of genocide is in violation of the Representation of Peoples Act. Swamy has also said that upon making his submissions, he will be able to make out a case for cancellation of the party’s registration and withdrawing the election symbol of the party.

He has also argued that the matter is urgent and requires urgent consideration to bring DMK to justice.
